Jean DUBÉ, piano

​

He was born in 1981, in Canada , and has become internationally acknowledged as one of the most important young pianists of our time. “ he plays everything with complete understanding, to say nothing of his phenomenal pianistic technique” (Normunds Šnē, conductor and director of the National Orchestra of Riga, in Latvia.

He played the piano from the age of three, performing his first concert when he was five. When he was nine, he was invited to open the Mozart Bicentenary, playing the Concerto No 5for piano and orchestra in D major, with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France.

In 1991 he won First Prize (a Steinway piano) at the Jeunes Prodiges Mozart Competition in Paris and, the following year, was awarded First Prize in Piano at the Regional Conservatoire in Nice. At fourteen, he won First Prize in Piano at the National Conservatoire of Music and Dance in Paris, First Prize at the Francis Poulenc Competition at Brive-La-Gaillarde (1997), at the Jeunesses Musicales in Bucharest (1998), and also Second Prize at the Takasaki Art and Music Competition (2000). In December 2000, he won Second Grand Prix at the Olivier Messaien Competition in Paris.

He studied with Catherine Collard, Jacques Rouvier and Jacqueline Robin and attended Master Classes with Dimitri Bashkirov, Lev Naumov, Oxana Yablonskaya, Rudolf Buchbinder, Vladimir Krainev, Leslie Howard and Murray Perahia and, from 2000 onwards with John O’Conor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music.   

  

In April 2002 he won the  6th International Franz Liszt Piano Competition in Utrecht.

He recorded his first CD, with Naxos, and he has given more than a hundred concerts in twenty-five countries.

He has sat on the juries of several international competitions, both in France and abroad ( Italy and China). He works regularly with the art lecturer Jula Le Brun, an opera specialist. He is also one of the Artistic Directors of Concertino.

He has played in several concerts in Azille with Jean-Pierre Marty and in 2020 in the château.
